Developer Description

Trip Hawkins, the founder of Electronic Art, had a natural interest in video games.

He believed that people could make valuable social connections and keep their minds active through gaming. After graduating from Harvard, Hawkins moved to Stanford to pursue a master's degree in business administration and, upon graduation in 1978, went to work for Apple, where he saw the company grow from a small company with 50 employees to a Fortune 500 company with nearly 4,000 employees and $1 billion in annual revenue in four years.

After accumulating enough capital at Apple, Hawkins left the company in April 1982 to start planning his own "gaming empire". On May 28 of the same year, Hawkins established his own company, which Hawkins personally funded for the first six months.

The company name was initially Amazin' Software, but Hawkins wanted to change it to SoftArt out of a desire to see software as an art form, but Software Arts intervened on the grounds of alleged copyright infringement. After a late night at 23:00, one suddenly came up with the English word "Electronic Arts", which was finally adopted by Hawkins as the company name.
