As the world's largest media giant, Viacom is home to several well-known brands. Nickelodeon is one of them. It was created on April 1, 1979. The purpose of this special children's channel is that provides age-appropriate, high-quality entertainment to American children (ages 2-15) who are over-indulged in commercial television programming. 

Since the early 90s and early 21st century, Nick as a brand has expanded to other regions, including Europe, in the Middle East, Russia and Asia. It will start broadcasting in Canada on November 2, 2009.
